  • To support and empower Ethiopian medical students through service, professional development and collaboration in order to become leaders dedicated to find solutions to the health care challenges that face Ethiopia.

  • To promote and foster the distribution of information pertinent to health needs of Ethiopians.

  • To serve as a forum and empower Ethiopian medical students and health care professionals worldwide to advance both national and global health.

A Look Back

EMSA-Ethiopia is a voluntary based association, which was established by students who believed that students could do more than just learn: they could be influential leaders who could make a change in the global health system. The initiator was Dr. Ergeba, who was learning abroad at the time. She was inspired after she attended a conference organized by medical students at her university.

With Dr. Birhanu (a fourth year medical student at AAU at the time), they organized a bunch of students with similar goals in 2003. They tried to see the experience of similar associations around the world and managed to make the association a full member of the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA) with a yearly membership fee covered by Ethiopian doctors living abroad who supported the idea.
